Along the south-western coast of Elba, on the coastal stretch called “Costa del Sole”, we meet the small tourist resort of Fetovaia, one of the most famous beaches of the island of Elba in the middle of the hills covered with Mediterranean nature. The eco-hotel Montemerlo is located just 500m from the sea, perfectly inserted in the nature surrounded by peace. The beach has a form of a crescent and consists of fine sand, which comes from the granite of the mountains and is therefore white. On both sides of the sandy beach are rocks. The beach is protected on the right side from most winds by a half island with lush Mediterranean vegetation.
The Sea daffodil (Pancratium maritimum), which is protected by the local association Costa del Sole in collaboration with Legambiente, grows directly on the beach.
For the romantic ones, it should be said that the name Fetovaia was born by the many fetching dolphins in Fetovaia, where the shallow waters were ideal for the slippery. This shallow water also makes Fetovaia an ideal beach for families with children.
The beach resort Pino Solitario offers its guests a Bar and Gelateria, a self-service restaurant and a small bazaar with newspapers and tabacchi. They also offer tennis/football, a playground for children and a relaxation area. The relaxation area is particularly suitable for the young guests, who want to rest from the hot sun and keep the lunch in the cool shade.
Discover the Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) on Elba Island
Elba Island is a special haven for the Loggerhead sea turtles, scientifically known as Caretta caretta, fascinating yet vulnerable marine creatures. These turtles choose our beaches, such as the beautiful Fetovaia, to lay their eggs, a sign of the richness of our marine ecosystem.
In 2023, we were honored to witness two significant nesting events on Fetovaia beach, leading to the birth of numerous hatchlings. These moments are crucial for the conservation of the Caretta caretta species and highlight the importance of protecting our natural environment.
